SEGi’s free mobile clinics

QUALITY healthcare is a basic right of all Malaysians and in support of the government’s goal to improve access to medical services, SEGi University College recently introduced a mobile clinic project
Its mobile clinics will provide free services which include general healthcare such as blood tests, eye and teeth examinations, health promotion and disease prevention activities, as well as referrals to medical and social resources.
The units, which are equipped with medical testing and examination facilities, will be manned by SEGi’s allied health sciences students from various disciplines, accompanied by SEGi clinical instructors and out-station doctors.
"Through your mobile clinics, you have taken the bold step to venture into remote areas which are not adequately served by existing permanent healthcare service centres," Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said at the launch of the mobile clinics at the SEGi Kota Damansara campus.
"People who in the past had to travel long distances to seek medical attention can now have easier access to diagnostic, preventive and curative services," she said, adding that limited access is a major deterrent to people seeking treatment.
Rosnah also lauded SEGi’s ongoing efforts to upgrade technical and managerial skills in the medical and healthcare profession through the courses it offers.
"These efforts are in line with the government’s aspirations to move into the high income bracket, as it is important for our healthcare practitioners to continuously update their knowledge and skills."
"The SEGi mobile clinic is a multi-purpose initiative, its main impetus being the fulfilment of corporate social responsibility through the delivery of basic primary healthcare to people living in rural areas and who have little or no access to such facilities," SEGi vice-chancellor emeritus Prof Dr Muhammad Awang said.
Also present at the launch were SEGi Education Group chief executive officer Lee Kok Cheng and chief operating officer Hew Moi Lan.
